Kuari Pass, Auli attracts trekkers from around the globe. Located in the Nanda Devi biosphere, Kuari Pass is at the center of one of the most remarkable regions of Garhwal Himalayas. The trekking expedition is exciting. Though at a relative moderate altitude of 12,200 feet, the trail offers unrivalled views. The forests are absolutely stunning. Mt Nanda Devi is with you in full grandeur during most of the trek. The beautiful camping grounds of Gorson, Chitrakanta and Khullara are the other attractions of the trek.
With just the right amount of snow, Kuari Pass trek introduces people to trekking on snow. Anyone above the age of 7 is fit to go for this trek. This trek is needs 6 days. Each day one has to trek about 2000 feet in terms of altitude. The continuous ascent and the switch from walking on soil to walking on snow needs some time to get used to. The beautiful panorama inspires to complete your journey.
The trek begins at Auli at 8,800 ft. The climb to Gorson Bugyal 10,500 ft. is a distance of 4.2 km which takes 3.5- 4 hours. Camp for the night and acclimatize. Enjoy the picturesque scenery and especially view of India’s highest summit Mt. Nanda Devi. Trek to Chitrakanta at 11,000 feet, a distance of 7.2 km covered in 4-5 hours. Dronagiri and Nanda Devi stand prominently. Rest your legs for the night. Next, climb to Kuari Pass at 12, 559 feet, a distance of 7.7 km in 5 to 6 hours. The view of Dronagiri, Changabang and Kalanka peaks are impressive from this point. Spend some time here, after which make your return trek. Take the descending trail via Khullara to Dhak and then Joshimath.
