Rajmachi is one of the famous treks in Sahyadri Mountains. The simple and beautiful trail is one of the favorite destination for every trekker and especially beginners. The Rajmachi Fort, the end of the trail stands at a height of 2750 feet overlooking the Bhorghat Pass, a major old trade route during Maratha Empire.
Trek to Rajmachi is very easy. The altitude is not very high and the trail is well marked and one can leave without a guide. Trekking during monsoon is most adventurous and challenging. Udhewadi is the base of Rajmachi fort trek.
There are 2 routes to reach Rajmachi, first from Tungarli near Lonavala and other being Kondivade village, Karjat route. The route from Tungarli is longer and it will take about 6 hours to reach Rajmachi. Via the Karjat route one can reach Rajmachi in about 5 hours. You may take the Kharvandi village route which is the shortest or Kondana route and visit the Buddhist caves too.
During the Rajmachi trek visit the Rajmachi fort built by Shivaji in 17th century. The twin forts “Manaranjan” and “Shrivardhan” are equally interesting. Visit the Bhairavnath Temple, Mahadev Temple & Rajmachi Lake. Rajmachi is an ideal destination for trekking. Ruins of forts, waterfalls, temples and the ancient Buddhist caves inspires the trekker to trek through the dense forests.
Camping in Rajmachi is a perfect idea especially because of the long trek. Rajmachi Rural Aid and Development Programme (NGO) have 2 dormitories to provide camping accommodation facilities for trekkers at a nominal charge.
