Athirapally Waterfalls is the biggest waterfall in Kerala. It comes down from a height of 80 feet through several parallel streams. In the monsoon season, it appears like Niagara Falls. It also offers views of the Sholayar hills and the Western Ghats.
The surrounding environs of the waterfalls are a biodiversity hotspot. The river is blessed with 85 species of freshwater fish living in it. The forest is the habitat of different species like the Indian grey hornbill, Malabar pied and grey hornbill, lion-tailed macaque, Asiatic elephant, tiger, leopard, bison, sambar, etc.

Daily jungle safaris are organized from Chalakudy to Malakkapara by the Tourism Promotion Council of the district with the administrative body of Athirapally.
It is a 90 km tour across the beautiful Sholayar range through Kerala’s rainforests. It covers attractions like Butterfly garden, Vazhachal falls, Kauthuka Park, Thumboormuzhy Dam, Athirapally Falls, and more.
Athirapally Waterfalls are accessible by trek. The route is well-maintained, and you get to savor the stunning views throughout. Birds and monkeys will give you company. And if you are lucky, you may see Samba deer. Once you reach the base of the falls, the view will be breathtaking.
Athirapally Waterfalls never dry out and can be visited anytime during the year. However, though the waterfall appears in its full glory during monsoons, heavy rains cause inconvenience. So, the best time to visit is from September to January.
Chalakudy is the nearest railway junction to Athirapally. Cochin Airport is the nearest airport to Athirapally Kochi and Thrissur are two major railway junctions. One can take a public/private vehicle from Chalakudy to reach Athirapally.
