Ganga Aarti at Triveni Ghat

Ganga Aarti at Triveni Ghat in Rishikesh

Lying by the holy Ganga River, Triveni Ghat (a river bank) is a sacred ghat that is used mainly for bathing by the pilgrims. The most popular attraction of this ghat is the everyday event of event Ganga Aarti where River Goddess Ganga is worshipped on a daily basis. This event is also termed as Maha Aarti. A huge, amazing and memorable affair, this prayer ceremony is attended by a huge number of devotees as well as visitors.

One of the most popular bathing spots in Rishikesh, Triveni ghat is the confluence of three holy rivers- Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati. However, the ghat lies by river Ganges. During the aarti, the priests hold a huge lamp containing several oil-lit diyas and rotate their hands in circular motion, worshipping the River. This action is accompanied by bells, beating drums, and chanting of bhajans. In the end, diyas (earthen lamps) are kept on flower-filled leaf boats and are released into the holy waters.

The whole event of sound and light is simply unforgettable. Do not forget to capture this awe-inspiring as well as soothing event in your cameras.
