Overview
Organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department in connection with the local communities and district administrations of Leh, the Ladakh festival is a yearly carnival. It is not only attended by the locals but also by tourists from all around the world. A wonderful chance to observe the lifestyle and culture of the people of Ladakh, its prime objective is to bring the limelight on the inherent traditions and cultural heritage for all to experience.
Celebration
Ladakh festival is celebrated months of September, each year in the Leh town and its villages. The inaugural ceremony is organized Leh on a huge scale that also involves a procession that sees participation from various cultural troupes. Traversing through the Leh market and coming to an end at the Polo ground, the procession has artists clad in colorful traditional Ladakhi attire immersed in singing, dancing, and enjoying the region’s traditional music.
During the seven days of the Ladakh festival, continuous celebrations such as polo matches, archery competitions, costume dances, masked dances in monasteries, cultural troupes, and musical concerts are on in different villages of Leh. Do not forget to get your hands on some wonderful crafts, Thangka paintings and treating your taste buds to delicacies of local cuisine.
