Around 35 km from the Cochin city, placed in the Cherai village, Cherai beach is one of the most popular beaches of South India. With a coastline of 15 km, this beach is absolutely clean and has shallow waters, thus ideal for sunbathing and swimming. Chinese fishing nets is the other attraction here. This golden beach of Kerala is famously known as the ‘Princess of the Queen of the Arabian Sea’.
Placed on the north-end of the Vypeen Island, Cherai beach is a charming beach that is dotted with paddy fields and coconut groves. A combination of backwaters and sea, the shores of this beach has seashells in different shapes and shades. Dolphins can be spotted here occasionally.
A 400 m ling walkway is the latest addition to main beach area of Cherai where both locals and tourists can be spotted. The edges of this pathway are adorned with high lamps so that leisure walks can be enjoyed here at night. The day time is ideal for swimming, sunbathing, surfing and other water sports activities.
There are a number of eating joints where one can savor delicacies seafood and other kinds of delicacies. Another crowd puller here is a park for children, which is equally popular amid locals and tourists. The park offers facility of the water-scooter and speedboats rides.
