"White sheets of still water under a half moonlight A land lain undisturbed for much of history, Visited in the past of an eerie knowingness, A discipline demanding sacrifice of all, A beneficent place where the seeker may Iive off the bounty of earth, Find perpetual warmth on southern shores, perpetual cold in the north."

Taj Mahal is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. It is situated on the bank of river Yamuna in the city of Agra (India). Taj is a symbol of the great Mughal heritage of India and of the eternity of love. Experiencing The Taj Mahal is like a journey back to the magnificent Mughal Empire. This monument is simply the expression of emotions in a structural form, and so, it is regarded as a monument of love. So, it's a place worth visiting to memorize the love in your life. Mughal emperor Shah Jahan built the Taj Mahal monument in 1631 as a tribute to his loving wife, Mumtaz Mahal.

A Journey into the History

The grand Taj Mahal monument is more than 350 years old. It was built in the 17th century by Shah Jahan, the fifth Mughal emperor of India. Even after such a long period, the fragrance of love in the Taj Mahal is as it is. It is like a gem in the crown of Mughal architecture. Mumtaz Mahal was her husband's best companion, she used to accompany him in war campaigns, and during one such campaign in Burhanpur, she died during childbirth. The dead queen was brought to Agra and buried on the bank of the river Yamuna.

Promises made by Shah Jahan

When Mumtaz Mahal was still alive, she extracted four promises from Shah Jahan. First, to build the Taj; second, he would marry again; third, he would be kind to their children; fourth, he would visit the tomb on her death anniversary.

Promise turned into a reality

After undergoing mourning for two years, Shah Jahan decided to immortalize her memories in the form of a monument. So finally, after the efforts of 20,000 workers the Taj Mahal was turned from a dream into a reality.

To fulfill the promise he had made to his wife, Shah Jahan built the Taj Mahal. Watching the Taj Mahal monument in itself is a tribute to love. Taj Mahal is located in the city of Agra in India. It took 22 years to get it complete. It is alleged that the hands of all the workers had been cut off so that they could never build any other monument like the Taj Mahal.

Iranian architect Istad Usa turned the promise made by Shah Jahan to his wife into a reality. The architectural complex has five main elements. Entering through the beautifully curved "Darwaza", or the main gateway, you reach to" the Bageecha" or the garden covered with lush green trees and fragrant flowers. On the left of the Taj is the "Masjid" built with red sandstones. Prayer is done here and on the right side of the Taj is "naqqar khaana"or the rest house.

Crossing the grassy carpet, reaching the tomb, built with snowy- white marbles, at first glance gives a peaceful feeling to the soul.
