Medieval Heritage Tour Itinerary

The Arrival : Day 01

On the day, you arrive in Delhi, you will meet our representative and you will be taken to a very comfortable hotel for your over-night stay.

Delhi : Day 02

Your tour package will begin with a tour of Laxmi Narayan Temple or the "Birla Temple" as it is popularly called, since it was built by B.D. Birla. The temple was built over a six-year period (1933-1939) and is dedicated to Goddess Laxmi and Narayana or Lord Vishnu. The walls of the temple are decorated with paintings by artists from Jaipur and there are also numerous fountains and waterfalls, that add to the beauty of the temple.

Next you will visit the India Gate. It was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens as a memorial to commemorate the death of 70,000 Indian soldiers killed in the World War I. From there you will be taken to the Parliament House, which is the government Headquarters and the seat of power. In the Afternoon you will see the Jama Masjid, which is the biggest mosque in Asia and the Red Fort. Both were built by the emperor Shah Jahan and are a great example of Mughal Architecture. Afterwards you will get to visit the Gandhi Memorial, to pay your respect to the Father of the Nation. In the late evening you will get to enjoy the light and sound show at the Red Fort after which you will be accompanied back to your hotel.

Delhi - Varanasi : Day 03

Early in the day you will be taken to the Airport, from where you will catch a flight to Varanasi-possibly the holiest of all pilgrimage sites in India. After your arrival, you will be taken to your hotel. In the afternoon, you will tour the Buddhist town of Sarnath and get to see the very spot where Lord Buddha preached his first sermon after becoming enlightened. Afterwards, you will be escorted back to your hotel.

Varanasi - Agra : Day 04

At dawn you will get to take a boat ride on the River Ganges, after which you will take a tour to the Alamgir Mosque, also known as the Beni madhav Ka Darera. The Mosque was built by Aurangzeb and is a blend of Mughal and Hindu architecture. After that you will get to take a tour of Dasaswamedha Ghat, The Banaras Hindu University and the Bharat Mata Temple. The Dasaswamedha Ghat or the 'ghat of ten sacrificed horses' is one of the main ghats of Varanasi and it is believed that here horses were sacrificed by Lord Rrahma to pave the pathway for the return of Lord Shiva after the period of banishment. As for the famous Banaras Hindu university, it was built in 1917 and is one of the oldest education centers/institutes of India. The Bharat Mata Temple is a unique temple because here one doesn't find icons of Gods or Godesses, but rather a huge relief map of the entire Indain subconmtinent and the Tibetan plateau. After this extensive tour, you will again be taken to the airport to catch a flight to Agra. After your arrival, you will be taken to the hotel. In the afternoon, you will take a tour to Red Fort and the Tomb of Itmad-Ud-daula. The Tomb was built by Empress Noor Jahan for the memory of her father Mirza Ghiyas Beg. After this, there will be a tour of Fatehpur Sikri, which was built by Akbar as the new capital after the birth of a son, as predicted or divined by the Sufi Saint Salim Chisti of Sikri. After this you will be accompanied back to the hotel.

Agra - Khajuraho : Day 05

A tour package cannot possibly be complete without a tour to Taj Mahal or the "symbol of eternal love" built by Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved Mumtaz. After this you will be taken to the airport so you can board a flight to Khajuraho. On arrival you will be taken to the hotel. In the afternoon, you will be taken on a tour to the Western/Eastern group of Temples. The important Western temples are the Chaunsat Yogini, the Kandariya Mahadeo, the Lakshmana Temple, the temple of Vishwanath and Nandi, the temple of Devi Jagdamba and many others. The important eastern Temples are the temple of Parsavnath, Shantinath temple, and the temple of Brahma and Hanuman. After this extensive tour, you will be escorted back to your hotel.

Khajuraho - Orchha - Gwalior : Day 06

In the morning, you will leave for Orchha, former capoital of the Bundela dynasty. You will take a tour to Jehangir Mahal, which was built by Bir Singh Deo to welcome the Mughal emperor Jehangir on his state visit. Then, a visit to Raj Mahal. Which was initially built by Rudra Pratap but was completed by one of his successors. Next on the tour list of the travel package are the Ram Raja Temple and the Chaturbhuj Temple. After this, you will be driven to Gwalior, where upon arrival you will be escorted to your hotel.

Gwalior - Shivpuri : Day 07

On this day, you will get to see the splendid Gwalior Fort, which was built by Raja Man Singh Tomar in the 15th Century. You will get to see the Man Mandir Palace, Sas bahu ka Mandir, Suraj kund, among many others. There will also be tour of the museum in Jai Vilas Palace, which is also called the Jiwaji Rao Scindia Museum, which was established in 1964. On display are many things ranging from weapons, paintings, manuscripts, sculptures and so on. After this, there would be a tour of the Sun Temple, located near the Residency at Morar. It is a newly built temple, inspired by the Konark Sun Temple of Orissa. Then a drive to Shivpuri where you will arrive in the late evening and will be accompanied to the hotel.

Shivpuri : Day 08

Your first visit will be to the beautiful chhatris or Cenotaphs of Shivpuri. Then a tour to Bhadaiya Kund, where there is a natural mineral water spring. After the lunch, there will be a tour to Madhav National Park. The Park was established in 1958 as the Shivpuri National park. It now enjoys the Wildlife Protection of 1972. Then again, you will be escorted back to your hotel.

Shivpuri - Ujjain : Day 09

After breakfast, you leave for Ujjain along with your packed lunch. On arrival, you will be taken to your hotel for the over-night stay.

Ujjain : Day 10

After a hearty breakfast, you will tour the famous pilgrim site. The tour will be to the Mahakaleshwar Temple, the temple enshrines one of the 12 jyotirlingams in India. Then you will get to see the Bada Ganeshji Ka mandir, which as the name itself suggests has a gigantic statue of Ganesha and is also a major picnic spot. Then, comes the Kaliadeh Palace. Which was built in the 15th century. The river Shipra's water is diverted over stone screens in this palace, which makes it very unique. After this, you will be accompanied back to the hotel.

Ujjain - Mandu : Day 11

On the 11th day of your tour package, you leave for Indore, where you take a tour to the Kanch Mandir. The exterior of this Jain temple is very plain but the interior has lots of pictures depicting sinners being tortured in after-life. You will also see the Museum. It has on exhibition many of the best medieval and pre-medieval Hindu sculptures of Madhya Pradesh. After this you leave for Mandu, where you may spend a quiet evening in the hotel.

Mandu : Day 12

In Mandu, your tour package will take you on a tour to the Ashrafi Mahal, the Rewa Kund Group, which includes the Rewa Kund and the Hindola Mahal (Swinging Palace), among many others. The Ashrafi Mahal was built as a Madarsa (a muslim religious school) but was later extended to become Mohammed Shah's tomb. The Hindola Mahal, near the Jahaz Mahal is very unusual and is a great place for tourists. It is believed that it was used by Mughals on monsoon evenings, who held parties there. Then, you are escorted back to the Hotel.

Mandu - Bhopal : Day 13

After the breakfast, you will leave for Bhopal. On the way you will have lunch at Indore and arrive in Bhopal for your tea. You can enjoy the evening by going for shopping or just relaxing at your hotel.

Bhopal - Sanchi - Bhopal : Day 14

On the day 14th, the tour package features a tour to Sanchi. The Sanchi site comprises a group of Buddhist monuments, such as the palaces, temples and pillars, some of which are from the 1st and 2nd Century. It was the major Buddhist Center until the 12th century A.D. The tour will feature a visit to the Archeological Museum, which has some of the most interesting pieces on display. For instance, the lion capital from Ashoka's pillar and a splendid Buddha figure in red sandstone. The next visit is to the Great Stupa. It is an ancient Buddhist temple and a historical site. After this, you will return to Bhopal and spend time relaxing and exploring the city. Then a tour to Taj-Ul-Masjid, which is one of the largest mosques in India. Then a tour of the Birla Museum and Laxmi Narayan Temple, after which you will be escorted back to you hotel.

Bhopal - Panchmarhi : Day 15

After your breakfast, you leave for Panchmarhi. On the way you visit the Bhimbetka, which is about 46kms south of Bhopal. There are over 500 caves in Bhimbetka, which have paintings that depict the lives of the pre-historic cave-dwellers. After the visit, you have your lunch and then arrive at Panchmarhi. There you can relax for the evening at the hotel.

Panchmarhi : Day 16

Panchmarhi has been truly blessed by nature. It has beautiful waterfalls, green shades and pools. Here, your tour guide will take you for a sight-seeing tour after which you come to Dhupgarh, to look at the setting sun. It is the highest point in the Satpuras and offers a view of the setting sun, which is simply breath-taking.

Panchmarhi - Jabalpur : Day 17

After the breakfast, you leave for Jabalpur along with your packed lunch. You reach Jabalpur for dinner and stay at the hotel for the night.

Jabalpur - Mumbai : Day 18

On the day 18, you will be escorted to the railway station so you can board the train to Mumbai. The night will be spent onboard.

Departure - Mumbai : Day 19

After your arrival in Mumbai, the guide or our representatives with accompany you to a hotel so you can freshen up and relax. In the afternoon, there will be a short tour of Mumbai, followed by a dinner and then your departure for home.
