Kesarval Spring

Introduction

The azure waters of the Arabian Sea on the west and the rocky expanse of the Western Ghats on the east, Goa, is blessed with a verdant nature that draw thousands of tourists from all over the country and abroad. Though much of Goa's share of limelight is drawn by the breath-takingly beautiful beaches, the abundance of nature in Goa manifests itself in several other forms ranging from its lush forests, emerald rivers, tranquil lakes and swift waterfalls. The waterfalls in Goa are mostly located on the Western Ghats and quite a crowd puller. The waters of the Kesarval Spring is believed to be endowed with medicinal properties which makes it a popular haunt for those interested in taking a dip in these healing waters.

The Kesarval Spring

The spring derives its name from ‘Kesar-val' alluding to the large population of eagles that peopled the surrounding densely forested slopes. This natural spring emerging out of solid rocks look splendid during the monsoon. However, the water level recedes during summer, robbing the spring of much of its beauty. A wild path through the dense undergrowth was the only means of reaching the spring until the 1950s, when rocky steps were constructed for the convenience of the tourists. Dense tropical vegetation and swaying betel palms surround the spring. Bathers from faraway place gather here to experience the healing properties of the spring waters.
