Waterfalls in Goa

Introduction

The azure waters of the Arabian Sea on the west and the rocky expanse of the Western Ghats on the east, Goa, is blessed with a verdant nature that draw thousands of tourists from all over the country and abroad. Though much of Goa's share of limelight is drawn by the breath-takingly beautiful beaches, the abundance of nature in Goa manifests itself in several other forms ranging from its lush forests, emerald rivers, tranquil lakes and swift waterfalls. The waterfalls in Goa are mostly located on the Western Ghats and quite a crowd puller.

The most famous waterfalls are listed below.

•  Arvalam Waterfalls - plunging from at an altitude of 70 ft this stunning waterfall looks its best during the monsoon when the wild gushing waters knows no bounds. It is located at Arvalem, about 2 km from Sanquelim and 8 km from Bicholim, in Valpoi taluk, North Goa.

•  Dudhsagar Falls (meaning ‘ sea of milk' ) - the white foamy water gushing down a whopping 600 m gives its name to the waterfall. The highest among the waterfalls in Goa, it is located at a distance of 60 km from Panaji and 10 km from Colem Railway Station.

•  Kesarval Spring - located amidst lush betel palm, this spring is believed to have medicinal qualities which accounts for many local visitors who come to take a dip in the waters of the spring. It derives its name from the eagles that once populated the slopes around the spring.
