The history of the earliest known temples in Goa dates back to over a thousand years. The pyramidal shaped tower or the traditional Shikara arises from the main shrine. Generally, there are two or more smaller shrines housing other deities known as Parivar Devatas around the entrance to the Garbagriha. Shri Mahalsa at Mardol
Located a km from Shri Mangueshi temple, the deity Gomantaka worshipped at Shri Mahalsa temple at Mardol is an attribute of Lord Vishnu . It is popularly believed that the deity fulfils the wishes of her devotees and hence is popular with people of all faiths. The major festivals celebrated at this temple are the annual fair Zatra (in February), Navartra , Mahashivratri and Kojagiri Purnima .
You would be mesmerized viewing the majestic seven-storied lamp tower made entirely from brass known as Deepstambh, standing 12.5 meters high, when you enter into the temple. In the inner hall of the temple you can see gloriously painted carvings of the 10 incarnations of Lord Vishnu. The entrance to the sanctum is adorned with an elegant silver frame, while a pristine water tank behind the temple takes you back to the golden historic days.
