Goa Daman and Diu Museum

Introduction

A symbiosis of East and West, of colonial rule and an age-old tradition, of a history of invasion and settlement, Goa has too many stories to tell. However, most of the museums in Goa, are a Post Potugese Era venture marking the recognition of Goa as a separate entity and also, an effort to boost up the tourism industry already on the boom because of its stunning natural beauty. Though the museums in Goa are not much of a crowd puller compared to its beaches, dropping in to some of them can be rewarding experience and a break from the intoxicating beauty at the beach. The Goa Daman and Diu Museum in the Ashirvad Building in Panaji, dwells mostly on archaeological and archival material for its display.

On Display

Furniture from the post-Portugese Christian era, important manuscripts and inscriptions, textile, coins, sculptures from the pre-Portugese Hindu dynasties, is put on display. The ivory statues, furniture and art objects are reminiscent of the Christian influence.
