Jog Falls

India's highest and Asia's second highest waterfall the Jog Falls located in the northern part of Karnataka is visited by tourists from world over. A magnificent and spectacular sight, the Jog Falls is visited by tourists from all over the world. The Jog Falls is created from the river Sharavathi, which falls from a height of 958 feet, splashing the rocks of Western Ghats.

The falls have four different tracks named as Raja, Rani, Roarer and Rocket according to their towering presence. The majestic Jog Falls which falls from such a great height is a mesmerizing sight for the visitors. Although not as vast as the Niagara Falls, the Jog Falls is no less supreme in beauty or magnanimity.

Tourists enjoy the beauty of the falls in different ways. One can take a bath in the waters of the Jog Falls, climb the steep heights of the falls or just feel the beauty of this tallest gorge. One can reach to the other side of the falling water. One can also take a dip in the pool formed by the falling waters. However this cannot be tried during the monsoon season.

Along with this waterfall is the Linganmakki Dam, across the Sharavathi River and there is also a hydroelectric power generator over there. During the monsoon, the Watergates of the Dam are opened and it is a must watch sight.

Tourists generally visit the place from August to November. The beauty of the overflowing gorge can be seen at its best during the monsoon. The roaring falls, thick smoke of fog and the steep heights surely makes it a memorable sight.
